Week of February 24

Monday

Students will finish expository paper.

Tuesday

Students will check out library books. Students will share their expository papers. Students will learn how to annotate a poem.

Wednesday

I will share the poem Watermelon, then we will discuss its features such as strong sensory nouns, adjectives, and adverbs. I’ll introduce free-verse poetry to the class. Students will follow along and do the writing activities apart of the PowerPoint presentation. Students will learn about elements of poetry and figurative language such as: assonance, alliteration, and simile.

Thursday
As a class we will finish the free-verse PowerPoint presentation learning about parallel structure, imagery, onomatopoeia, and cadence.

Friday
I will share the poem Remembrance of a Friend. Then the class will discuss sensory language, especially the use of vivid verbs.

I will teach the students ways of generating ideas for poetry. Next, we will have a mini lesson on writing free-verse leads.

Students will brainstorm their own ideas for a free-verse poem. They will next begin writing their poem making sure to utilize figurative language.

Week of February 17

This week we will continue working on our expository paper.

Monday – Holiday

Tuesday – Students will match expository prompts with types of writing.

Wednesday – Students will begin brainstorming in order to write paper.

Thursday – Students will write expository paper

Friday – Students will continue writing paper and peer edit.

 

Week of February 10

Monday –

Students will journal. Free write

Students will wrap up the assignment in Study Island – drawing conclusions.

We will begin a discussion of Expository writing. We will discuss the different forms of writing from the Writing Academy. The Writing Academy Game Card

 

Tuesday

Students will journal – free write

Students will go to the library and check out a book for a book project.

Students will do the Concentration game as an individual.

 

Wednesday

Students will journal – free write

Student will begin brainstorming about their expository prompt.

Students will journal – free write

Students will work on expository paper.

Students will journal – free write

Students will work on expository paper.

Week of February 3

Monday

Students will complete a journal entry. – please free write at least 5 sentences

Students will read non fiction stories in Backpack Reader and answer questions.

Students will read and write a summary of the lesson for context clues in Google Drive and share before the end of the period.

 

Tuesday

Writing Benchmark

If you come to class today, catch up on your Monday’s assignment.

In your journal entry, you should tell me about the benchmark.

This class won’t be long, so you may begin Wednesday’s assignment.

 

Wednesday

Students will complete a journal entry. – please free write at least 5 sentences

Students will begin the analogies lesson.

Students will read the summary of analogies and write a summary. – make a document in Google Drive and share before the end of the period. Students will complete the analogies multiple choice questions.

 

Thursday

Students will complete a journal entry. – please free write at least 5 sentences

Students will complete the revising and editing lesson. Students will begin the drawing conclusions lesson on Study Island with 20 questions.

 

Friday

Students will complete a journal entry.

The class will begin discussing expository papers.
