(17) Writing/Expository and Procedural Texts. Students write expository and procedural or work-related texts to communicate ideas and information to specific audiences for specific purposes. Students are expected to:

(A) create multi-paragraph essays to convey information about a topic that:

(i) present effective introductions and concluding paragraphs;

(ii) guide and inform the reader’s understanding of key ideas and evidence;

(iii) include specific facts, details, and examples in an appropriately organized structure; and

(iv) use a variety of sentence structures and transitions to link paragraphs;

(B) write informal letters that convey ideas, include important information, demonstrate a sense of closure, and use appropriate conventions (e.g., date, salutation, closing);

(C) write responses to literary or expository texts and provide evidence from the text to demonstrate understanding; and

(D) produce a multimedia presentation involving text and graphics using available technology.

Welcome back from the Christmas Holidays.  I hope that you had a joyful holiday and have come back ready to work.

Monday
We will discuss our Holocaust project. I will show the students how to cite their sources.

Tuesday
Students will check out and recheck their library books.

As a class we will do the introductory video for graphic features (interpreting maps, graphs, and charts).
Students will either work independently or work with a partner to do the computer reading skills program Study Island.

Wednesday
Students will select 1 Holocaust topic to research independently and then type the information in a Google Drive Presentation. Students will cite their sources.

Thursday and Friday
Students will continue to work on their Holocaust. Students have access to a vast supply of books to research from, or they may use the Holocaust website. These presentations will begin on Monday.

Monday

Students will learn how to make a folder in Google Docs and put their first six weeks work in it.

Students will finish a character analysis of one of the characters in Dollhouse Murders.

Students will begin keeping a journal in Google docs. This will be used as a beginning activity when

they come into the room. This activity will last 5 minutes.

Tuesday

Journaling
Students will go to the library to check out books.
Students will be able to do a Mimio lesson on subject-verb agreement.

Wednesday

Journaling
Students will begin watching The Dollhouse Murders.

Thursday

Journaling

Students will finish watching movie.

Students will discuss plot line.
